Buffing the part to a high shine before plating ensures that the part will be shiny after plating.

You need to control the amount of power reaching the anode. You can do this by using lightbulbs in the circuit, or by using a plating rectifyer. Using a rectifyer, you simply plug in the machine to your outlet and dial in the correct current.

Some plates require multiple steps. For example, a real chrome plate requires at least 3 steps. Copper plating, Nickle plating and chrome plating.
